Join Smart Start of New Hanover County and community faith leaders for our 6th annual community summit to learn about issues that impact a child in their first 2,000 days of life – about the time between when they are born and when they begin Kindergarten. During the summit, we also take time to talk, reflect and plan.
As our community begins our recovery from hurricane Florence, we are reminded once again how critical it is that we take care of our children; that we make sure that the most vulnerable among us are safe and protected and have all that is necessary to flourish.
Keynote address by Dr. Alice Fothergill, co-author of Children of Katrina.

Reflecting upon Florence, its aftermath, and the long-term recovery efforts that are underway we are reminded of the Masai traditional greeting “How are the children?” to which the answer would be “All the children are well.”  When we can all answer, with confidence, that all the children are well we know that peace and security prevail.
We look forward to gathering together again to work and plan and recommit ourselves to ensuring that all the children are well.
