Built in 1895 by James Walker Tufts, Pinehurst was originally a health resort for New Englanders looking to escape the harsh winters. Donald Ross built the first course in 1901 and the rest, as they say, is history. Pinehurst has been the site of every major Championship including the Ryder Cup, U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur and PGA Championship. In 2014 Pinehurst hosted the U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open Championships in back-to-back weeks.
