We'll serve up burgers and dogs and provide tea and water. Bring a friend, your favorite adult beverages and a side dish to share. At 7pm we will have a short talk about our volunteer needs and preview the plans for the Fourth (see below for quick FAQs). Mostly, we will spend the time sharing memories and getting to know others who share the same love for Masonboro that you do.

VOLUNTEER COOKOUT & PRE-GAME PLANNING

Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 6:00pm

for a Fourth of July Pre-Game Meeting

7601 Masonboro Sound Road, Wilmington, NC 28409

If you're going to volunteer on July 4, we strongly encourage you to come to the cook-out! That night, we will give you details about the game plans for our big day. Our coach will tell you the when, what and where details. Mostly, we will spend the time sharing memories and getting to know others who share the same love for Masonboro that you do. Here is a sneak peek at what we'll discuss: There are two remaining shifts available: Midday Shift [12:00p - 4:00p] and Late Day Shift [4:00p - 8:00p] You may sign up for one or both. OUR BIGGEST NEED IS THE LATE DAY SHIFT.

We'll provide transportation from home base to the island base camp and back. There are shuttles running nearly every hour. At the cook-out, we'll fill you in on where to park, what to do when you get to home base and how to check in at our tent on the island.

Our island base camp includes tents for limited shade, info about Masonboro.org and limited water and snacks. Our job is to promote responsible use by leaving the island better than ever. We spread the word about masonboro.org, hand out trash bags to beach-goers and help clean the island on the north end. Masonboro.org provides the trash bags for beachgoers who don't bring their own. Our motto is "not one bottle cap remaining at dark on the 4th".

Feel free to bring camp chairs, a cooler with your favorite refreshments, snacks, sunscreen, etc. Please dress according to the forecast.

If you have a boat and would like to volunteer as a shuttle captain, please CLICK HERE. In 2009, Independence Day party-goers threatened to close Masonboro Island to the public. Since then, hundreds of our famous MASONBILLY volunteers have come out to the island on July 4 to clean up after the party-goers. You can help. CLICK HERE to visit our website.
