The Summer Solstice just passed, and we're well into summer. We all know summer generally means heat, and this summer has been no exception with hot days up in the 90s! Here are a few ways to beat the heat in Wilmington:

Get Ice Cream

Nothing says "summer" quite like cooling down with a some ice cream. Head to Boombalatti's Homemade Ice Cream with two locations in the area, the original location in The Forum and one in downtown in the Brooklyn Arts District. Choose from tons of homemade flavors of ice cream, made fresh daily, plus ice cream pies!

Head to the Water Park

If you and your family are tired of sweating it out in the dead of summer, make a splash at Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park. Open daily all summer until August 26 and then on the select dates (August 31 and September 1, 2, 8, and 9). Jungle Rapids offers plenty more than just a water park, including mini golf, go karts, mini bowling, an arcade, laser tag, rock climbing wall, and more!

Go to the Mall

Avoid the sun's rays by hitting the shopping racks at  Independence Mall, Wilmington's only enclosed mall within a 55-mile radius! With hundreds of stores and free WiFi, this mall is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. While you're at the mall, stop off at Glow Golf and play a game of real glow-in-the-dark miniature golf. Glow Golf is located near Dillard's across from Shoe Dept. Encore.

See a Movie

A way to stay in cool A/C while also doing something fun for you and everyone you know is to see a movie! Head to The Pointe 14 Cinemas to catch a flick while enjoying seats that recline and rock as well as many more perks such as wine and beer, summer kids' shows, bargain pricing, and discounts on Tuesdays! The Pointe 14 Cinemas are also sensory-friendly.

No matter how you beat the heat here in Wilmington, make sure to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated!
